Title: The new Redfox software and the old Shrink
Post by: bbell on May 19, 2016, 01:14:12 PM
Okay, I have been transferring a lot of movies onto terabyte drives. First thing I noticed is that all of the standard dvds new and old rip with no problem using just Shrink and the DVD43 plugin. Which is strange. I am wondering if windows 10 is still recognizing The DRM encryption. Cause I have never seen Shrink and the DVD43 plugin handle so many movies without a problem, even in their prime.

As for the new Redfox products, it seems as if there is no need for it when ripping standard dvds at least with windows 10 if you have Shrink and the DVD43 plugin. I do not know how blurays are ripping, and if Redfox is needed. One other thing, the new Redfox does not work with Shrink and the DVD43 plugin, it gives a cyclical error message. And as always neither Shrink or the new Redfox handle scratched disk very well.

Hey bbell,

I don't know about Windows 10 not needing redfox but how were you able to get shrink to install on Windows 10? I tried installing it and it said it was incombatible.

You wrote about that a while back. After you posted that I found Shrink 3.2, and it installed easily. I cannot believe how small the program is compared to all the other ripping programs. In short, I do not know how I was able to get it to install. Maybe it was installed before I updated to Windows 10. I believe that you may have updated quite a few weeks before I got my upgrade to Windows 10. Plus I have my security set pretty low.

For now I am going to use it until a movie released in the past year no longer cooperates with Shrink.

Maybe setting security lower it may work then set it up afterwards. I also think that's the version I have too.

Well what do you know, before trying to set security lower or make any other system changes I decided to try and install Shrink and it worked! This is on a new system that already had Windows 10 installed and not one of my other PC's that was upgraded to Windows 10 so maybe that made the difference.
Just glad it worked.
