Dredd ****

This 2012 remake of the Stallone flick is well worth watching if you don't mind a good deal of graphic violence, and I do me graphic. I never saw the earlier version, but from what I have read, it wasn't very good. This one is quite a bit of fun. Kurt Urban plays Judge Dredd, a policeman granted the powers of judge and jury in a dystopian society of the future. Actually, it looks about like modern Chicago rather than something in the distant future.
Dredd is shackled with a new candidate for the Judge corps, and attractive blond named Anderson. They go into a block house called Peach Trees to investigate the murder of three thugs. While there they capture one of the killers, but the entire structure goes into lockdown before they can leave with their captive.
The rest of the film is a prolonged gun battle between the two judges and the Mama gang with all sorts of weaponry brought into play.
The film is another of those comic books brought to life, so don't look for any kind of depth. It is just plain fun. Lots of shoot 'em up, and victory of good over evil in the end. Kurt Urban is pretty wooden, and we never see his face, but that doesn't detract from the film at all. Anderson is very pretty and most guys would rather see her than Urban anyway.

"Race has now replaced rule of law officially. In one speech our president has reversed 60 years of healing the racial divide and destroyed the dream of Dr. King. The result will be an exact reversal of the conditions existing before The Civil Rights Act. And the hardest hit will be the children in whose name the left always claims to act. Well done Obama". - Pendark
