USB Ports
« on: August 15, 2015, 03:23:35 PM »
Does anyone else have the problem of their usb ports on their laptops reporting to be usb v1.0 instead of 2.0 or 3.0. Under device manager it says I have 2.0 and 3.0 usb ports. However when I plug usb drives in and attempt certain operations it tells me the ports are 1.0 and that 2.0 is needed to perform the operation. Not to mention the transfer speed is very slow.

Went to the microsoft help page some had similar problem and said that a bios update corrected the problem. Can't find an update for my bios.

Can't help you here with that since my laptop/netbook still has Windows 7 on it. I know my PC's have both 2 & 3 USB ports and they work correctly. Maybe your laptop manufacturer hasn't come out with an update for the bios yet.  ~---~

Okay, after about five hours of this annoying problem. I think I found a solution that others might use. I updated an app called Toshiba eco utility. Now this app is designed to reduce power consumption on laptops by powering down some components. The Toshiba site says nothing about it affecting usb performance, however while using the device manager before the download, I did see a power setting button for some of the usb ports, which seemed to do nothing.

If you removed most of the Toshiba bloatware after the warranty expired as I did. You might want to re download the Toshiba service station. The service station detected that my only outdated system app was the eco utlity. The updated eco utility is designed for windows 10 performance.

Hope this helps someone and if you are having quick stream problems. Just go to amd and down load their driver detection tool, then download what it recommends.

My Netbook is a Toshiba but since I'm keeping Windows 7 on it I'm not having that problem but it's good to know.

The only problem I'm having or had with Windows 10 on my PC's is that if you have your power controls set to shut off the screen, go to sleep, and power down the HD the computer seems to go into the black screen of death and the only way to get out of it is to hold down your power button to shut down the computer. After you turn it back on again, the computer says it's updating and will reboot two times before you can use it again. My fix was to just turn off all the power shut downs.

I have noticed that when my screen goes to sleep it takes a little extra effort, though not as much as you describe,  to get the screen back up. The computer reports a minor driver issue and then reopens the screen. This is even after updating to the latest drivers for the NVidia card.
