Not THE worst movie but it ranks right up there. Dakota Fanning should win an oscar for screaming the most in a movie.

The movie is really very good. The problem is that it follows the original H.G. Wells' classic. It was a remarkable work in its day, being one of the first works of modern science fiction. However, there has been a tremendous surge in Earth vs. Aliens SciFi since the 1950s which has made War of the Worlds some what dated. Given the material Spielberg did a remarkable job. George Pal's WOTW was good, but not nearly as good as this one, and it did not stick to the original material.

"Race has now replaced rule of law officially. In one speech our president has reversed 60 years of healing the racial divide and destroyed the dream of Dr. King. The result will be an exact reversal of the conditions existing before The Civil Rights Act. And the hardest hit will be the children in whose name the left always claims to act. Well done Obama". - Pendark

We own it and have watched it several times over the last couple years.  Some things were a little over the top, like his son walking into a fireball war zone and showing up at home in the end.  And, the time spent in the basement of the house was entirely too long.  However, the book spent a lot of time in that basement as well.  Overall I would give the movie ^^^  ^^^  ^^^  ///()

The original War of the worlds from the 1950's was much better than the latest remake with Tom Cruise..
